How to compress an image to 200KB
- Drop your photo into the box above, or click to choose it. 200 KB is already selected.
- The tool tries quality levels automatically and keeps the highest-quality JPEG that is 200 KB or smaller.
- Check the preview, then click Download.
If the image cannot reach 200 KB at full size, the tool also reduces its pixel dimensions step by step and tells you when it has done so. You can pick a different target, or type a custom size, at any time.
When you need an image under 200KB
Use 200 KB when a form allows larger uploads or when you want a photo that still looks good full-screen on a phone but loads quickly on a website or in email. Most phone photos can fit 200 KB with little visible loss.
How the size is measured
Websites disagree on whether a kilobyte is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. To be safe, this tool treats 200 KB as 200,000 bytes, the stricter of the two, so the file passes upload checks that use either definition. The result is saved as JPEG because JPEG gives the smallest files for photos and is accepted almost everywhere.
All processing happens in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded, which matters for ID photos and signatures.
