How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Drop one or more PNG files into the box above, or click to select them.
  2. JPG is already selected as the output format. Adjust the quality slider if you want smaller files.
  3. Click Download next to each converted file.

The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this is safe for personal photos and private documents.

Why convert PNG to JPG?

Convert PNG to JPG to make photos and screenshots much smaller for email, messaging, and upload forms that limit file size or only accept JPG. For photographic images, a JPG at 85–90% quality is usually a fraction of the PNG size with no visible difference.

Transparency: JPG cannot store transparent pixels, so any transparent areas in your PNG are filled with white during conversion.

Quality setting: JPG is lossy, so use the quality slider to trade file size against sharpness. 85–90% is a good default for photos.

PNG vs JPG

PNG uses lossless compression, so every pixel is kept exactly, and it supports transparency. That makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, and graphics with text, but photos saved as PNG are usually much larger than JPG.

JPG (also written JPEG) is the most widely supported image format. It uses lossy compression, which keeps photos small by discarding detail the eye barely notices, but it has no transparency.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to the transparent background of my PNG?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP instead, or keep the PNG.
How much smaller will the JPG be?
For photos, often 5 to 10 times smaller. For simple graphics with flat colors or text, the saving is smaller, and PNG may look sharper.
Is there a file size or count limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because conversion runs on your device, very large images depend on your browser and available memory.
