How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Drop one or more WebP files into the box above, or click to select them.
  2. JPG is already selected as the output format. Adjust the quality slider if you want smaller files.
  3. Click Download next to each converted file.

The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this is safe for personal photos and private documents.

Why convert WebP to JPG?

Many websites now serve images as WebP, so images you save from the web often end up as .webp files. Convert WebP to JPG when an app, editor, printer service, or upload form does not accept WebP. JPG works almost everywhere.

Transparency: JPG cannot store transparent pixels, so any transparent areas in your WebP are filled with white during conversion.

Quality setting: JPG is lossy, so use the quality slider to trade file size against sharpness. 85–90% is a good default for photos.

WebP vs JPG

WebP is a format developed by Google that supports both lossy and lossless compression plus transparency. WebP images are typically smaller than equivalent JPG or PNG files, and all current major browsers support them, but some older software, editors, and upload forms still do not accept WebP.

JPG (also written JPEG) is the most widely supported image format. It uses lossy compression, which keeps photos small by discarding detail the eye barely notices, but it has no transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Why do images I save from websites come out as WebP?
Many sites serve WebP because it loads faster. Your browser saves the file in the format it received, which is often WebP.
Will I lose transparency?
Yes, if the WebP has transparent areas: JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas become white. Convert WebP to PNG instead to keep transparency.
Can I convert animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, because JPG cannot hold animation.
